My Word of the Year for a Great 2016

My Word of the Year

It is a popular end of year activity to pick your one “Word” for the coming year.  I have been picking my word of the year for several years. Christine Kane has a great downloadable tool to help you find your word.  I usually use her tool and ponder on the word. The last two year’s words have not worked out for me.

This year, in turning fifty, I have my Project 50.

My word came to me not long ago, just that little epiphany:

TRY

I know what Yoda said. Do or do not. There is no try.

I agree with that. You should not say you are going to try to run a 100 mile race. You say I am going to run a 100 mile race. Don’t even put that word of “try” which in that context says “maybe” like you aren’t entirely sure you can do it.

Using TRY in the context of my Project 50:

to test the effect or result of (often followed byout):

to try a new method; to try a recipe out.
to make an attempt or effort; strive:
Try to complete the examination.
Project 50 is going to consist of doing new things, new processes, new ideas *to me*. I don’t know if I will succeed. I don’t know if I will even like the activity, or whether I will accomplish the activity! But it’s all about learning something new, striving to achieve some goal that it not really in my normal realm of activity, even some things that may make me slightly uncomfortable.
It was amazing how quickly TRY hit my head and I knew right then that was my Word for 2016.
Do you pick a word for the year?

I first heard of the ‘word of the year’ last year. I love the idea. Mine this year is ‘be’ . As in be in the moment, be content, be productive!!
Best wishes for your Project 50!

I think that is a perfect word for your Project 50! My word is alacrity for 2016. I’ve done this now for four years and some years are awesome and some eh… but so far so good! (I always try it out!)

I’ve had two words, for both 2014 and 2015 that just didn’t work out. I think a simple “try” will be okay this year. I like your word!

I did pick a word – determination. Good luck with your Project 50. I have walked for exercise and enjoyment for years and hope to do so for many years to come.
